Why It Makes Such a Difference

Most of the dark grey-green discolouration on Essex driveways and patios is not actually dirt at all. It is a thin biological film of algae and lichen that has anchored itself into the surface. Soap and a stiff broom barely touch it. A proper hot or cold pressure washer at the right pressure, with the right rotary nozzle, lifts it off in seconds and reveals the original stone or block colour underneath.

Customers are often genuinely surprised at the colour of their own driveway. A buff-coloured Indian sandstone patio that looked uniformly grey will reveal warm honey, cream and rust tones once it is cleaned. A concrete driveway will go from streaky black back to the off-white it was when it was laid. The transformation is usually visible within a few minutes of starting.

Re-Sanding and Sealing

Block-paved driveways need fresh kiln-dried sand in the joints once they have been washed. Without it, the blocks can rock and unsettle, and weeds find their way back faster. We brush in fresh sand as part of every block-paving clean, and we can also apply a proper paving sealer afterwards if you would like to lock in the colour, slow the regrowth of moss and make any future cleans easier.

Decking can be cleaned, sanded and re-stained or oiled to restore the timber. Patios in porous stone benefit hugely from a colour-enhancing sealer that brings out the natural tones and waterproofs the surface against future staining.

How a Typical Visit Runs

We arrive with our own equipment, plenty of hose, our own water supply for properties without an outside tap, and the right nozzles for the surface. We brief you on what we are about to do, agree access for the rear garden where needed, and start work. Most domestic patios and driveways are cleaned in a single day. Larger projects with re-sanding and sealing may run to two or three.

We will usually pressure wash drains and gullies as part of the work to clear out any debris kicked up by the cleaning, and we leave the surfaces tidy at the end. Plants and adjacent painted surfaces are protected throughout.
